Ninja is helping Brits recreate healthier ‘fakeaway’ versions of their favourite takeaway

British Takeaway & Fast-Food Survey Results

We conducted a survey¹ of 2,000 Brits in a bid to uncover the nation’s fast-food habits. The research proved the UK is truly a nation of fast-food lovers, with nearly half of Brits (49%) eating takeaway food up to four times a week.

Fast food favourites

When it comes to our most-loved cuisines, Brits are certainly still fans of the takeaway classics. Ever popular Chinese food comes out on top, with more than two in five of us ranking it as our favourite, with British and Indian following closely behind.

Jess Levy, SharkNinja Vice President of Marketing EU said: “Frequently eating fast food is clearly a habit that lots of people want to break”

Yet while the popular cuisines that we all know and love are undeniably tasty, nearly a third (30%) of Brits have revealed that they are conscious of the weight gain that can result from eating takeaway food regularly.

As such, keen to prioritise health and reduce spending, more than a quarter (28%) of Brits are looking to cook more meals at home. But despite these good intentions, many of us don’t know where to start. In fact, over a third (38%) of respondents revealed they sometimes find cooking too time-consuming, and more than a quarter (28%) feel they lack the cooking skills to cook proper meals themselves.

Jess Levy, SharkNinja Vice President of Marketing EU said: “We’re on a mission to prove that healthy cooking doesn’t have to be boring or time consuming”

The survey findings reveal that over a third (36%) of Brits have never attempted to recreate a ‘fakeaway’ dish at home, and that two thirds (67%) of adults under 25 order takeaways because they don’t have the right cooking appliances to create quick and tasty meals at home themselves.

Isaac Carew, Professional Chef, Model and Ninja Kitchen UK Ambassador said: “Food that’s better for you, saves money and doesn’t compromise on taste… what’s not to love?”

The cost of fast food

Despite growing concerns over the costs of takeaways, Brits are spending an average of £1,758 on takeaways each year. Adults under 25 to be the biggest takeaway fans, spending on average a whopping £43 on takeaway meals from delivery services and fast-food outlets each week (up to £2,580 a year).

However, the findings show that people are also increasingly worried about the cost of takeaways, from both delivery services and fast-food outlets. As the cost-of-living soars, almost half (46%) of Brits think that fast-food is too expensive, despite nearly a third (30%) of us spending more on takeaways now compared to before the pandemic.

Since the return to the office after lockdowns, the fast pace of our daily lives has returned to pre-pandemic levels, leaving less time to think about food. As such, it is perhaps unsurprising that over two fifths (41%) of respondents aged 25-34 regularly opt for takeaways out of convenience, choosing them over home-cooked meals, to suit their busy schedules.

Jess Levy, SharkNinja Vice President of Marketing EU said: “Ninja Kitchen’s range of appliances make it quick and easy to prepare delicious, healthy food, whether you’re cooking for yourself, entertaining friends, or feeding a hungry family.”
