Have you tried pizza for dessert?
Drizzled with Filippo Berio Balsamic Vinegar it’s a little bit of luxe that is sure to impress this Valentines day.
Strawberry Balsamic Pizza
- For Pizza Base (enough for 2 pizza bases)
- 500g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp dried yeast
- 400ml warm water
- Filippo Berio 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, for greasing
- 2 tbsp (4 tbsp for 2 pizzas) cream cheese (I used Philadelphia Greek Style cream cheese)
- 4 (8 for 2 pizzas) Strawberries, sliced
- 1 (2 for 2 pizzas) basil leaves, chopped
- Filippo Berio Gran Cru Balsamic Vinegar, for drizzling
- 1 tsp icing sugar
Place the dough blade in your Ninja food processor. Mix the yeast with the water and leave to one side for 5 minutes, once little bits have started to float to the top it is ready to use. Put the flour and salt in the processing bowl.
Pour the water yeast mixture into the processing bowl and hit the dough function on your food processor. Allow to mix until the mixture has come together as a ball.
If the bottom is sticking add 1 tsp of flour to the bowl.
With oiled hands remove the dough from the processing bowl and the dough blade, roll into ball. Place dough ball into a lightly oiled bowl and cover loosely with clingfilm. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until double in size.
Pre heat oven to 180C, place a baking tray or pizza stone into the oven at the same time.
Cut dough ball in half. Roll out one half to desired thickness and place on a lightly oiled pan. Repeat with other half, or cover in clingfilm and store in freezer for up to 2 months.
Lightly dust the work space with flour. Roll out the dough ball to the desired thickness.
Using a pastry brush, brush the edges or crust of the dough with olive oil.
Spread 2 tbsp of cream cheese on the dough, meeting the olive oiled crust line.
Layer the strawberries over the cream cheese, drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the entire pizza.
Sprinkle the chopped basil and dust the icing sugar over the entire pizza.
Slide the assembled pizza onto the baking tray or pizza stone and allow to cook for 10 – 15 minutes.
